Transform boundaries are regions where two tectonic plates slide past one another horizontally. The movement at these boundaries is not smooth; rather, it involves moments of friction and stress accumulation followed by sudden slips, which result in significant geological activity, particularly earthquakes.

The intense stress that builds up as the plates interact can lead to energy release in the form of seismic waves, which we perceive as earthquakes. While volcanic eruptions are associated with convergent and divergent boundaries, mudslides can happen anywhere but are not exclusive to transform settings.
